Food was really good. The shrimp po boy had great breading. The chicken sandwich was perfect with the aioli and the cajun shrimp had a great sauce. We also had the fried catfish which was fried really well. I would definitely recommend this place!

If you are on the lookout for some good creole cuisine or just want to try something new, look no further from Southern comfort food. They got some hefty po’ boys and flavourful étouffée. You order at the counter and wait for the delicious food. Service was fast on the day we went as we didn’t have to wait long. We got some Mac and cheese which is little different from the home made one. This was bit tough but tasted good. The Crawfish Étouffée was large portioned and tasted delicious. Hush puppies were piping hot and fresh. They also have beignets on weekends. All they are missing is some oceanside swamps and views to make this a perfect Louisiana backwaters hangout. Geaux Tigers!

Pleasantly surprised to find this food in Castro Valley. Not quite New Orleans but good. The restaurant was busy which says a lot about the food.

This place is so good! Seriously. Went in with my wife and had the fried brussels sprouts, shrimp Po Boy sandwich, and who dat chicken strips with Cajun fries. Everything was 10 out of 10. So much flavor - I couldn’t stop eating. The shrimp was fried perfectly, with a delicious and crisp outer crust, the bread was perfectly soft. The sauces -incredible. Everything was SO good. Staff was also super friendly and helpful!

While the fried chicken sandwich is what Southern Comfort Kitchen is most known for, it’s not what I craved on my first visit. Rather, I ordered small portions of the crab fries and crawfish étouffée. The fries were delicious, with a healthy amount of rock crab lumped on top along with Old Bay aioli and Cajun seasonings on the fries themselves. The dish has plenty of green onions, and I love green onions. The fries had a great crunch, and they did not go limp under the aioli sauce. The crawfish étouffée’s sauce was rich with mellow spices. I appreciated its generous helping of green onions as well, though I did wish for more crawfish. Regardless, the étouffée combined nicely with the rice and the side of baguette that they provided even with my “small” portion. My husband ordered a quarter muffaletta sandwich and a side of regular fries. The quarter looked large enough to satisfy a light appetite, with a copious amount of cheese melting out the sides. Of course, I had to go back to try the fried chicken sandwich. I should note that it's not a "hot chicken" sandwich, but an amazing classic one without chile heat. Two freshly fried chicken breasts are served on the bun with a red vinegar coleslaw, pickles, and more of the Old Bay aioli. The incredible tastes and tingles from the herbs and spices in this well-seasoned batter thrilled my tastebuds. I refrained from drizzling over Crystal hot sauce once I realized how lovely the sandwich was without it--this one just plain doesn't need that extra zest. The coleslaw’s vinegar dressing tang, the pickle brine, and the creamy aioli all mingle with those seasonings, making a near-perfect mix of flavors and textures for a sandwich. No notes. Wonderful. If you’re craving good Cajun cooking, I don’t think you can do much better than Southern Comfort Kitchen in the Bay Area.

Order shrimp and grits with brown sugar brussel sprouts and brown sugar lemonade, it was really really good, I enjoyed not only the meal, the music and atmosphere was lively, and enjoyable. I would definitely eat here again and maybe try the pasta, it all looked amazing. Well prepared, and tasty!!!!

This is one of the southern food locations in the Bay Area. It’s my second time coming here and I’m glad that they bring this type of food at the western side. It doesn’t seem to be many places like this in the Bay. From the first time I went, their fried catfish and shrimp (50/50 dish) was amazing. I really heard good things about gumbo from online. I grew up eating rice and so I decided to try it out for the first time. Honestly, it’s really good though especially how the sauce blends well with the rice and seafood. I also tried their brown sugar lemonade before and got mines again. It’s been at least two years since I last visit but I guess I forgot that you can fill that lemonade yourself. I thought that they’ll fill it and then serve it to you.

We went on a Saturday afternoon. We've had it catered before so I wanted to try it straight from the kitchen. Had the shrimp po'boy, red beans and rice, hush puppies and Who Dat shrimp over rice. Loved it all. Favorites were po'boy and who dat shrimp!! You have to get the brown sugar lemonade!! Small venue, but friendly staff, nice Louisiana music playing. Picture of sandwich is only half portion after we split it.

This might be a Southern kitchen but the vibes are all Bay area. Everyone working there was exceedingly kind and the music choices were great. We ordered the jambalaya, crab Cajun fries, fried shrimp, and southern chicken sandwich. My mom really enjoyed the jambalaya and the chicken sandwich while the crab fries were my personal favorite. Hoping to come back to try the crawfish pasta next time!
